Biography of Alfred Döblin

Alfred Döblin was a German writer and novelist who is considered one of the best German language authors.

Born into a family of an unsuccessful Jewish merchant, he faced a difficult childhood when his father abandoned the family. In 1898, Döblin's mother moved to Berlin with her five children. Döblin pursued his education at the universities of Berlin and Freiburg.

Medical Career and Literary Pursuits

Döblin initially trained as a neurologist and practiced medicine in Regensburg, Freiburg, and Berlin, particularly in the eastern working-class district near Alexanderplatz.
